Serie A Chief Reveals Arsenal Target Is Being Pursued By “Foreign Teams”

Torino president Urbano Cairo has revealed that centre-back Armando Izzo does have interest from clubs abroad.

The 27-year-old has been linked with Arsenal in recent weeks, and when asked by Sky Sport Italia about the defender’s future, Cairo confirmed he had spoken to the player’s representative regarding the interest:

“He has a contract with us for another four years, we met with his attorney because there was interest from foreign teams and we want to keep him here”

Cairo appears to be determined to keep Izzo at Torino. The Italian only joined the Serie A side from Genoa last summer for £9m.

He helped Il Toro to a seventh-place finish in the league last season, just six points off the Champions League places.

Walter Mazzarri’s side conceded only 37 goals in 38 league games, keeping the fifth best defensive record in the whole division, with Izzo playing nearly every game.

The centre-half’s form was rewarded with a senior cap for Italy earlier this year. He came off the bench for the Euro 2020 qualifier against Liechtenstein in the 6-0 win back in March.
