After being linked to Dortmund’s Marco Reus, Arsenal are now directing their attention towards Schalke’s Julian Draxler again. The youngster has been on Wenger’s list for a really long time but a transfer was always far away due to the considerable amount of money the Germans asked for their forward. Things might change though during January when the Gunners are planning to spend big in order to avoid last season’s situation. One of the reasons for which they lost touch with the top two teams in the Premier League standings was the fact that they did not have enough players to maintain a steady pace.

Schalke’s 20 year old is probably even more important than Reus at this particular moment in time. Even though Wenger needs a second striker to help out Welbeck or Giroud, Arsenal are definitely going to also need a left winger to step in for Cazorla just in case something happens. Even with Podolski deciding to stay on at the Emirates, it is still great to think ahead. Both players are entering their last years of contract and an extension longer than two years is off the table. Draxler represents a long term, reliable solution considering his experience. He looks more than capable of stepping in at any time and he also looks capable of adapting to Premier League football due to his physique and excellent technique.

Arsenal have almost half their transfer budget intact if you consider all the moves they made this summer. According to talkSPORT, if Draxler really is a priority, they will have the necessary money to pay his £38million which will allow the German international to move to London.
