Sanchez Needs Time To Decide Future

Arsenal captain Per Mertesacker believes that forward Alexis Sanchez should be left alone to decide his future, and needs more time in order to make a decision.

Alexis is undoubtedly Arsenal’s star player and is arguably the best player in the Premier League, but the 28-year-old’s future with the Gunners is uncertain as he claims to want Champions League football. Clubs such as Manchester City have circled in order to capture the Chilean, but as of yet he is still an Arsenal player.

However, with just one year remaining on his current contract, and with no signs of Sanchez renewing, it is unlikely that Arsenal would want their man to leave for free – therefore leaving them with no option but to sell.

Arsene Wenger believes Sanchez will stay at the club and said he has held “positive” talks with the player on Saturday, but with Sanchez being quoted by Chile’s Radio Sport saying that his dream is to win the Champions League, it might be that he searches for a fresh start considering Arsenal will not play in the competition next season.

Mertesacker though believes that the forward should be given time in order to make his decision after a long season for the Chilean who also had to play in a Confederations Cup tournament at the end of the normal season.

“He needs a break now,” the German defender said. “He needs to relax. He has done a lot for us. He played almost every game last season and then the Confederations Cup.”

“You need to leave him alone to make up his mind what he wants to do. It’s his decision. If he feels good, comfortable, he can play with freedom.”
