Salszburg Chief Speaks Out Amid Claims That Arsenal Are Keen On Signing £22.5m Rated Playmaker

Red Bull Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund has said the Austrian club are not looking to sell attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai this summer.

The Hungarian international has been heavily linked with Arsenal over the past year, with the likes of Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain also having been credited with an interest in the player.

Freund says the only departure that Salzburg were anticipating was Hwang Hee-Chan’s move to RB Leipzig:

“Many are interested in Szoboszlai, but our goal is for him to stay. With Daka and Mwepu, our plan is to keep them. Our desire is to have only one exit, Hwang.”

Szoboszlai could well be seen as the Gunners’ long-term replacement for Mesut Ozil, but with the German unlikely to leave before his contract expires next year, it is not thought that the Salzburg midfielder will be a priority this summer.

Various reports have suggested that the 19-year-old would cost in the region of €25m (£22.5m) which is a steep figure considering Arsenal’s limited transfer budget. He could well be a player that the Gunners revisit in 2021 if he is still available.
