Sagna Snubs Any Link To PSG

Transfer rumors regarding French right back Bacary Sagna continue to be a talking point for many Arsenal fans. The 29 year old has been playing for Arsenal since 2007 and still has 18 months left on his contract. PSG has been closing in on the Gunners’ defender since before Christmas. They consider Sagna an excellent fit and know that they can get a pretty good deal as he will soon be going into the last year of his contract.

According to Arsenal’s managerial team, they offered Sagna a one year extension to his current contract but things are not settled yet. Wenger has been criticized a lot for his approach of letting players go into the last years of their contracts with the club and fans are afraid they will lose one of their best defenders. Although the French right back is going to be 30 next season, thus along with Mikel Arteta becoming one of the oldest players on the team, he is seen as a steady presence in the team for next year’s campaign and beyond.

Sagna didn’t have the best season of his career last year due to serious injuries but things are starting to look up. He is again Wenger’s first choice for the right back position and he has appeared in all the matches Arsenal have played since December. Although Kieran Gibbs and the gunners’ newly transferred Nacho Monreal are both quality left backs neither of the two have Sagna’s experience and qualities, so having the stability and reliability of a veteran like Bacary Sagna in the team is especially important considering the fact that so much of the time our central defenders are either injured or not up to the job in hand and let’s face it there is no substitute for experience.

In response to the fans’ questioning Sagna’s devotion to his club, the Frenchman issued a statement saying that he is 100% dedicated to Arsenal and his concentration is not to be affected by any outside offers or rumors. He also added that he won’t leave Emirates Stadium until he manages to win a trophy.

The French international stated that he has had no contact with PSG whatsoever and mentioned that he has no intention of ruining his relationship with Arsenal. He will probably go for the one year extension on his contract but the fans are still afraid that they could lose their right back because an improved offer from the gunners is not likely to appear.
