Sagna Reiterates Faith In Gunners

The French international moved to London back in 2007 from Ligue 1 outfit Auxerre. Since then, he has gradually established himself in the first-team setup and has earned the tag of being one of the most consistent right-backs in the league. He has put in solid performances in defense, along with doing his bit in attack by venturing forward through the right flank and launching inviting crosses into the penalty box. He has won the trust of the Arsenal faithful over time and now is one of the first names on the team sheet.

The 30-year old is set to run into the final year of his current contract with the Gunners, and there has been no progress in agreeing to a new deal. This situation has given rise to several rumors in the British press stating that Sagna could possibly quit the Emirates Stadium in the coming weeks. The names of Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille have been linked with an interest for the full-back. However, Sagna has now come out and cleared the air regarding his future by stating that talks about a new contract are ongoing. He also gave a statement regarding Arsenal’s chances of winnng the league next season by saying that he firmly believes that his team could win the title and end their 8-year trophy drought.

He was reported by Metro as saying, “I truly believe we can be champions or else I wouldn’t be playing football. I would have gone already. I truly believe we can succeed with the team we have,”

“I strongly believe we have the quality to be the best in the Premier League.”

“Look at the end of last season, when we got 26 points from a possible 30. Not a lot of teams can do this and this is what makes me believe we can beat anyone.”

“What we managed last season can be done only by a true team with a great team spirit. I believe we can achieve a lot more.”

Do you see Arsenal winning the title next season? Or is this Sagna’s blind faith?
