Sagna Injury Derails Arsenal’s Preparations For West Brom

Arsenal are currently enjoying life at the top of the table as their stunning early season form has helped them open up a two point lead over their nearest rivals. After their opening day defeat at home to Aston Villa, the Gunners have won each and every game henceforth and visit West Brom on Sunday.

Though the London club are arguably the best team in England right now, it must be noted that they are currently playing with fire when it comes to the number of players available to them. They are walking on thin ice as their squad is shockingly slim when it comes to the fit personnel.

The club’s bench majorly consisted of youth players until recently as the likes of Mikel Arteta and Thomas Vermaelen were welcomed back. Arsenal’s attack in particular is in a very delicate situation as the likes of Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski, Santi Cazorla and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all nursing their respective injuries.

Adding to that list now too is Sagna. The 30-year old started the season brightly in defense and was also impressive in Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Napoli in midweek. However, he moved uncomfortably in the second half of the game, and manager Arsene Wenger confirmed today that the right-back has indeed pulled his hamstring.

He will be out of action for 3 weeks and will miss league games against West Brom and Norwich City along with international games for France against Australia and Finland.

Daily Mail report that Wenger spoke to the media while confirming Sagna’s exclusion from the game as he said, “It’s always a blow as he (Sagna) is a good player. Carl Jenkinson will do well there.”

The Arsenal back four of Sagna, Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and Kieran Gibbs have been solid this season. It would be interesting to see how will Jenkinson deputize for Sagna on Sunday. Do you see Arsenal maintain their form? Or will this change shake up the understanding and harmony at the back and will it end up leading to the defence leaking goals?
