Sagna Hints At Arsenal’s Champions League Objective

Arsenal are currently on a winning streak which could finally end their 8 year trophy drought. The team is playing at a high level and the players look really focused. Even if some key footballers have been out with injury and even with Wenger’s lack of options in front of goal, the Gunners still remain on top of the Premier League standings. They are also leading their Champions League group with only one game remaining until the next stage. The Emirates team was expected to have difficulties after losing against Chelsea and United but they managed to bounce back. That shows character and focus which give Gooners hope that their team will finally bring home the glory.

Even though Wenger insisted he is not thinking too far ahead and that his objective is to win each game no matter the competition, his players’ statements say otherwise. According to ESPN, Sagna told the press his team is set on reaching the final stage of the Champions League. The 30 year old defender who was present on the pitch during the 2-0 win against Marseille explained that even though the adversaries are fierce, the Gunners still seek Champions League glory. It is a brave objective for Arsenal considering they are yet to taste European glory.

Even with Sagna’s determination Arsenal are not out of the woods yet. The Gunners’s group is one of the most difficult of the season. Wenger’s side is now first with 12 points but they are closely followed by Napoli and Dortmund who both have 9 points. The remaining fixtures could eliminate the North London team if they fail to at least finish in a draw against Napoli. Dortmund will probably have no problem beating Marseille so all that is left is for Arsenal is to play at the highest level possible.

It would be a major let-down for Gooners if their team gets eliminated. They have already lost out on the Capital One Cup after being eliminated by Chelsea but hopefully Wenger will find a way to keep his players performing at the high level they have managed so far this season and keep Arsenal contending in both the Champions League and the Premier League.
