Sagna Could Leave Arsenal

After a long spell at Arsenal, Bacary Sagna has made it no secret that he is keeping his options open for a summer move abroad, with clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco interested in his services.

Sagna has been a regular right back for the club since he joined from Auxerre for a fee in the region of £8 million. The French international has played 177 matches for Arsenal over the span of 6 seasons. He was part of an Arsenal team that consisted of players like Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas. However, all three players have since left the club for greener pastures, with all three winning major domestic honors with their new clubs. This may very well have prompted Sagna to seek glory elsewhere.

Arsenal have not won a trophy for nearly a decade, and the experienced players are gradually realizing they do not have enough years left to play. At the age of 30, Sagna has only a few quality years left in him before he starts to show signs of age. PSG have shown concrete interest in his services, with the player’s nationality helping the cause of a possible transfer. Manchester City have also been mentioned as possible suitors too.

Another club that has emerged as an interested party is FC Monaco. The French side currently ply their trade in Ligue 2, but sit comfortably at the top of the table, waiting to enter the top league in France. The owner of the club has ambitions to take the club to the top of France, with the recent rumors that Radamel Falcao is close to ignoring Chelsea’s offer, and instead opting for Monaco.

This is not good news for Arsenal fans, as Sagna is one of their most experienced players in the squad. However, if he does leave, the club have 21-year old Carl Jenkinson ready as a replacement for the Frenchman.

According to a report in Metro, Sagna said, “Of course it makes me proud to read PSG are interested. They are a very attractive club.”

“Personally I’ve not been approached by PSG. I don’t know if they have contacted my agent or if these are rumors.”

“I don’t close any door. I could very well extend my contract here in London but equally I could leave at the end of the season. I only have one year left on my contract — we will see.”

All these being clear indications that the player could leave if a concrete offer is put on the table.
