Romano Reveals Arsenal Are Eyeing January Swoop For 22.5M Rated Aouar Alternative

Arsenal are actively pursuing Red Bull Salzburg attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, according to the Guardian‘s Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on his ‘Here We Go’ podcast, the Italian journalist confirmed that the Gunners have been keeping tabs on the Hungarian international as an alternative to Lyon’s Houssem Aouar, and may even consider making a bid for the 20-year-old during the January transfer window:

“He’s in love with the Premier League, so let’s see what Arsenal will decide. What I’m told is that Arsenal are looking to sign this kind of player. They were looking [at Houssem] Aouar, they are now considering the situation of Szoboszlai. So, let’s see what will happen next summer or [in] January, but Arsenal are following the player.”

Arsenal, along with AC Milan and Napoli, were linked with Szoboszlai over the summer, with reports suggesting that Salzburg would be prepared to let him go for around €25m (£22.5m). That would be considerably cheaper than Aouar who is expected to fetch in excess of £50m.

Szoboszlai revealed back in August that he would be staying with Salzburg for another season but, as Romano mentions, the midfielder is believed to be keen on a move to England. That would make the Gunners the favourites for his signature, unless another Premier League team also enters the race for the player.
