Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is “staying” at Atletico Madrid and won’t be recalled by the Gunners during the January transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Uruguayan international joined the Spanish club on loan back in October but has had limited game time. However, despite speculation that the £26m signing may return to the Emirates and then be loaned out to a club in Italy, Romano says the player will remain in Spain:
Torreira there’s nothing, he’s staying. Buendia is an option as I said yesterday!

Much of the talk surrounding Torreira’s future has come from press reports in Italy, where clubs like Torino and Fiorentina have been linked with loaning the 24-year-old. The Uruguayan’s lack of minutes may have prompted these teams to enquire about the possibility of taking him on this month.
Whether the situation will change before the window closes, we shall have to wait and see but, whatever happens, Arsenal supporters shouldn’t expect to see him in a Gunners shirt any time soon.
