Robert Pires: Aaron Ramsey must stay at Arsenal

Arsenal legend Robert Pires has urged his former club not to allow Aaron Ramsey to leave the club next summer.

Ramsey’s contract at The Emirates expires at the end of the season, meaning he could be allowed to leave the club on a free if a new deal cannot be negotiated.

Arsenal have been trying to tie the Welshman down to North London, however have failed to agree a deal with the midfielder, who is demanding a huge increase in wages in order to stay at the club.

Liverpool tried to land Ramsey in the summer, and reports suggest they could move again for him in January, while Chelsea and AC Milan are also thought to be monitoring the situation.

But Pires says the Gunners simply cannot allow Ramsey to move on, such is his importance to Unai Emery’s side.

Pires told Standard Sport: “I don’t know what’s happening at the end of the season. Maybe he will extend, maybe not.

“He’s a great player, he’s been at Arsenal for a long time. He scores a lot of goals and is important to the squad.

“Aaron needs to talk with the board and find a good solution for him and for Arsenal.”
