Brazilian legend Rivaldo has been very impressed with the start that Gabriel Jesus has made since joining Arsenal from Manchester City.
The 25-year-old got off the mark with a brace and two assists against Leicester last weekend, and Rivaldo predicts that Jesus will thrive during his first year at the Emirates:
“Gabriel Jesus is already paying for his transfer fee at Arsenal with such a prolific performance against Leicester following his move from Man City in the summer. He might become one of the best signings for the club for many years. He’s a great player who is completely adapted to the Premier League and he is in a fantastic stage of his career to develop into a big star.”
“He didn’t play so often at Man City because the club has so many good options in all positions and Pep Guardiola didn’t see him as a regular starter in his time there. Even though, he learned a lot and grabbed a lot of experience in English football that will help a lot to create an immediate impact in his new club. I believe Jesus has all the qualities to have a great season in his first year at the club.”
Rivaldo’s confidence in Jesus looks to be well-founded. Not only has the forward made a very strong start to life at the Gunners in terms of his goal return, he also seems a perfect fit for Mikel Arteta’s style of play.
The player has recently said he has renewed confidence in his ability to be a number nine. As Rivaldo mentions, Jesus was played out of position at City and that led to the forward assuming that he was more suited to playing a support role.
However, after being made the main man by Arsenal, it seems he is more than capable of taking on the extra responsibility.
