REPORT: Emery Set To Swoop In To Sign 20M Rated Arsenal Star

Villarreal are keen on signing Arsenal keeper Emiliano Martinez, according to the Daily Telegraph. The Spanish club, who are now managed by ex-Gunners boss Unai Emery, are waiting to see whether the Argentinian international becomes available.

Martinez is happy to stay at the Emirates but only if head coach Mikel Arteta makes him first-choice goalkeeper ahead of Bernd Leno for the upcoming Premier League season.

If that doesn’t happen, the 28-year-old will look to leave, with Villarreal expected to be a front of the queue to snap up the shot-stopper. There have been reports that Arsenal would hold out for around £20m for the player, and it will be interesting to see whether any club would be prepared to shell out that much in order to secure his signature.

Martinez certainly deserves his chance of first-team football, considering how well he has performed in the absence of the injured Leno, but his future is likely to become clearer in the next couple of weeks.
