REPORT: Arteta Plans ‘Major’ Squad Overhaul With The Future Of 3 Senior Arsenal Stars In Doubt

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is planning a “major” shakeup of the squad at the end of the season, according to the Sun. The newspaper claims that captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil are the three players most likely to leave the Emirates in the summer.

The Gunners boss would like to keep Aubameyang but with the player’s contract running down, he has been told by Head of Football Raul Sanllehi that no player will be allowed to run down their current deals, meaning the Gabonese international may well be offloaded.

Ozil is in a similar situation, and with the playmaker having failed to score this campaign, and having provided only one assist, Arteta could sanction his sale.

Lacazette is in a slightly different situation. The Frenchman has a contract that expires in 2022, but it is believed that if Aubameyang does sign a new deal, his teammate could be allowed to leave in order to finance moves for new arrivals.

Other reports in the English press today suggest that Arteta wants two midfielders and a centre-back in the summer, with the plan to snap up their main targets before Euro 2020.
