Report: Arsenal To Sign Young English Left-Back To Compete With Gibbs And Monreal

It has been reported lately that Arsenal might be looking to add some depth to their squad in the left-back position. The Gunners were recently linked with Valencia’s fine young Spanish left-back Jose Luis Gaya despite them already having two seasoned internationals in Spain’s Nacho Monreal and England’s Kieran Gibbs competing for the starting left-back spot in the first team.

Well according to the Mirror, Arsenal will be making their first signing of the winter transfer window within the next day or so. The incoming player however is young Englishman, Cohen Bramall from non-league side Hednesford, who play in the 7th-tier of English football in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.

Bramall recently got a lot of press after appearing on Sky Sports’ Soccer AM with a fine Rabona assist and went through a successful trial at Arsenal’s Colney training ground over Christmas where he obviously impressed enough for Arsene Wenger to authorise the £40,000 transfer of the 20 year old left-back who can also play in midfield. Seemingly the youngster will be given time to adjust to playing full-time football after playing for part-time Hednesford but he is expected to go into the U23 squad with the hope that he will be able to break into the first team in time. According to the report, Cohen Bramall has signed an initial two-and-a-half-year contract and has passed his medical so the transfer should be formally announced in the very near future.

While obviously not a massive signing the hope is that Arsenal have uncovered a bargain here as the youngster certainly has bags of potential and gives the club more depth in an area where they wanted to have more options. Time will tell but for a £40,000 transfer fee the Gunners do not have much to lose.
