Arsenal are considering making another bid for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, according to the Sun. The Gunners failed with a £40m offer in the summer but they may return with a similar proposal for the Frenchman because of the player’s contract situation.
It was reported last week that the centre-back is unwilling to sign a new deal, and with his contract expiring in 2021, Leipzig may even consider letting the 21-year-old leave for below his £51.8m release clause.
Arsenal are, therefore, weighing up whether to bid for Upamecano in the January transfer window or in the summer. Leipzig may well ask for a lower fee at the end of the campaign but the Gunners may face greater competition from other clubs.
With William Saliba also returning from his loan spell at Saint-Etienne in July, the London club may well have a much younger backline at the beginning of next season.
