Arsenal star Reiss Nelson is finally set to sign a new deal with the club after a series of contract rejections, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The news will come as a source of joy for Gunners fans – and a disappointment to clubs who were keen to snap the 23-year-old up on a free transfer, such as Brighton and West Ham United.

The contract will reportedly last until the summer of 2027, with an option to extend it for a further year, according to Romano – he also mentions that Arsenal are ‘confident’ that he will re-sign.

In Romano’s tweet, he wrote: “Arsenal proposal to Reiss Nelson: four year contract, option included for one more season — as revealed two days ago. Short term deal proposal was rejected in April, talks are now advancing for long term contract. Parties are confident.”

How will Reiss Nelson fit into the Arsenal team?

Nelson, when fit, has generally been used as backup to the Gunners’ three first-team wingers – Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

With his new deal, however, Nelson may receive more first-team action as a result. It is likely that the four wide men will be used on a rotational basis – although it is unclear how much playing time each will get next season.
