REPORT: Arsenal Are Among The Five Teams Pursuing The ‘New Modric’

Arsenal have joined the battle to sign Rennes midfielder Lovro Majer, according to Fichajes.net.

The Spanish rumour mongers claim that the Gunners are “very interested” in the Croatian international, with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan also said to be keen on the player.

Majer, who has been labelled the “new Modric” by some in the media, only moved to Rennes last year, but he has impressed scouts, having scored seven goals and provided 11 assists in 44 appearances for the French club.

Arsenal are on the lookout for a new midfielder but whether they need someone with Majer’s attributes, it is debatable. The 24-year-old is an attack-minded player, and it could be argued that manager Mikel Arteta already has two similar players in his squad: Martin Odegaard and Fabio Vieira.

Perhaps Majer is being eyed as a potential alternative to Granit Xhaka in a deeper-lying role, so we shall see if the Gunners step up their interest in the New Year.
