RB Leipzig Chief Reveals Decision On £53m Rated Arsenal Target’s Future Could Be Imminent

RB Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff has claimed that a decision on centre-back Dayot Upamecano’s future will be made “relatively quickly.”

The Bundesliga club have ruled out the player leaving on a free transfer next year when his contract expires, so there are now only two possible outcomes: a sale or a new contract.

Mintzlaff says that a resolution to Upamecano’s situation will be known pretty soon:

“There are two options for him – he will either sign a contract extension or leave. I’m sure that we will know relatively quickly in which direction it goes.”

Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City have all been linked with the 21-year-old in recent months, with the defender having a €60m (£53m) release clause.

However, the Gunners are not believed to be in a position to pay the buyout fee, and they will be hoping that if Upamecano decides to leave that Leipzig opt to lower their asking price significantly in order to secure the player’s sale this summer.

Even then, the fierce competition for the France Under 21 international’s signature means the possibility of him moving to the Emirates is still a long shot.
