Ramsey’s Goal Scoring Exploits Motivating Wilshere?

Ramsey has been in devastating form in front of goal this season for the Gunners, and has plundered 11 goals in just 20 appearances, which is incredibly the same number of goals he had managed in his entire Arsenal career before this season. This is the first time he has hit more than 4 goals in a season and we are just in the month of November!

The Welshman has grown leaps and bounds this season and has been nothing short of a revelation at the club. Most Arsenal fans could be forgiven to think that Ramsey would just be an ordinary player this season whereas Wilshere would steal the show.

Ozil was the man to take up the mantle when he signed in a club-record deal but, vehemently defying all his critics, Ramsey has taken the bull by the horns and has easily been their best midfielder thus far.

However, it was Wilshere and not Ramsey that excelled in Arsenal’s 2-0 Champions League win over Marseille on Tuesday night, scoring both goals to ensure the Gunners need only a point in their final group game away to Napoli to qualify for the knockout stages.

Wilshere, akin to Ramsey, has never scored more than 2 goals in a season but already has four to his name this season. He has also revealed that he is targeting a total haul of ten goals for the current campaign.

According to Yahoo! Eurosport, Wenger believes Ramsey’s goal scoring exploits have motivated Wilshere to raise his game in order to find the net on a more consistent basis. The England international’s second goal was a simple tap-in, but his first goal was pure class as he found the top corner with a left-foot curler.

Wenger said, “I have nothing against Wilshere scoring – if I’m wrong I’m happy! I liked his first goal because before he’d rush a little bit. He’s starting to think ‘what Ramsey can do, I can do as well’, the first goal shows that. What Ramsey has done puts in Jack’s mind that he has to score as well. If you’re a midfielder you want to score goals.”

Arsenal’s win means they sit top of their group after amassing 12 points from their first five matches but they still need a point from their final group game to guarantee qualification.

Wenger said, “It’s unbelievable that we have 12 points and still have to finish the job, but that’s reality. It’s a tricky situation. In over 150 Champions League games this is the first time I have seen this.”
