Quit The Complaining – Arsene Wenger Is A Legend

The stream of complaints and the number of calls for his resignation directed at Arsene Wenger is totally unnecessary and is really insulting to a manager who has lead Arsenal with class and dignity throughout his almost 16 years in charge. We all know he has won us trophies (4 FA Cups, 3 Premier League Crowns and 4 FA Community Shields) but that he has not delivered any silverware in near 8 seasons.

I know it is hard to be patient but I sincerely believe (as the old cliche goes) that the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know and continuing to demand for Wenger to step down is not the right course of action. If the recent disclosures are true then Arsene will be following the club’s long established plans and after years of fiscal restraint he will be aggressively pursuing transfer targets this summer without there being any tight budgets to adhere to.

Knowing the Board and Wenger like we do, I think we can safely say that there will not be any signings in the same vein as Man City or FC Anzhi Makhachkala for example where these clubs throw ludicrous amounts of money about to buy players and then sign them on long-term contracts with ridiculously high wages. Arsenal are too measured and pragmatic but I do think that Wenger will pay what is required to secure his top targets and will battle it out with other clubs if necessary whereas in recent seasons he has avoided any bidding wars and taken a back seat as soon as prices have reached what he thinks is above the real market value of the player.

Wenger is absolutely right that we will miss him when he is gone and let’s face it no other manager could have done significantly better when having to follow a tight fiscal plan and adhere to the Board’s mandate like he has over these past seasons since the club’s move to the Emirates. I am sure that Wenger has turned down most of the top European teams at some point during his Arsenal tenure and I don’t think Mourinho or Ferguson would have done any better in Wenger’s place.

I hope we do not find out if another manager can do better than the Frenchman with the current squad. Arsene Wenger is a legend – he brought an exquisite style of beautiful football to England. previously unseen in the Premiership; he has developed numerous young prospects into top class players such as Walcott, Fabregas and Wilshere to name but a few; he has unearthed and signed many incredible players for the club like Henry, Cazorla and Anelka; plus he has always operated like a consummate professional, constantly backing his players and remaining totally committed and fiercely loyal to the club.

The team are still playing for him as shown by the effort the players put forth against Bayern and their reaction at the end of the match – so clearly he has not lost the dressing room which is usually the case if a manager needs to resign or should be relieved of his duties.

Therefore, I think it is definitely still a case of In Wenger We Trust! Let’s simply let him get on with the job.
