ESPN pundit Steven Nicol has criticised Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka for his disappointing display against Everton on Saturday afternoon.
The 21-year-old struggled to get the better of Everton left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko and Nicol claims he hadn’t seen him play that bad in any match this campaign:
“Mykolenko gave Saka nothing. That’s probably the worst game we’ve ever seen from Saka all season.”
It’s a very harsh assessment from Nicol. Saka was certainly quieter than usual, but his performance was not as poor as the likes of Martin Odegaard or Ben White.
The winger had a shot cleared off the line and another attempt that was blocked. Admittedly, it wasn’t a display up to the standards we would expect from him, but that’s because he has been playing at such a high level this season.
Saka was definitely not the reason that the Gunners lost at Goodison Park. Mikel Arteta’s side were collectively poor on the day and they will need to improve when they take on Brentford next weekend.
