Pundit sends warning to Arsenal fans about life under Emery

Former Premier League star turned Sky Sports pundit Craig Bellamy has warned Arsenal fans that their team will get worse before they begin to get better.

The Gunners lost their opening game of the season against the champions Manchester City, and a section of fans have already doomed the club to be worse off than when they were under Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal’s style of play throughout the game was questionable, playing out from the back which was far too predictable and often causing more trouble than it was worth.

It shows that new manager Emery likes to keep possession of the ball starting from the back, and work it forward. But these tactics will take time to adapt to for the players, and Bellamy believes that things will get worse on the pitch before they eventually begin to take shape.

When asked where the Gunners are at after the loss to City, Bellamy told Sky Sports’ The Debate: “It is short-term pain for long-term success.

“If you go into a football club, you have your ideas.

“They’re not the worst ideas or else he wouldn’t have been appointed in the first place and he wouldn’t have won the Europa League with Sevilla or Ligue 1 title with PSG.

“He wouldn’t have done so well at Valencia. He’s a good manager. He’s gone in with his idea and this is how he wants to play.

“What we’ve seen is the first stage of where he’s at. Usually from watching and knowing his work, he’s someone who likes to play at all costs.”

Bellamy is absolutely spot on here, Emery needs time at the club in order to realise his potential. Of course, it may take time to adapt and for it to be easy on the eye, but this was always going to be the case no matter which manager came in.
