Podolski Vents Out Frustration Following Omission

Arsenal traveled to Birmingham to face Aston Villa in Monday’s late night kick-off, looking to reclaim top spot in the league. They braved the harsh wet conditions and a late Villa onslaught to come away with a hard fought 2-1 win. The result ensured a happy trip back home for the Gunners.

One person though who was not happy was Podolski. The German started the game on the bench as Wenger chose to give young winger Gnabry a run in the senior side, following his impressive display against Tottenham in the FA Cup. As Arsenal made substitutions in the latter stages of the second half, Podolski was expecting to come on and help his team close out the game.

However, he was overlooked by Wenger who instead chose to thrown in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who was making his return from a long-term injury suffered, ironically against Aston Villa on the opening day of the season. This clearly upset Podolski, who was caught by the lens angrily zipping up his jacket and shaking his head in disbelief.

Podolski has not been a regular figure in the team ever since his return from a hamstring injury. He did have an immediate impact though on his comeback against West Ham where he scored Arsenal’s 3rd goal, however since that day his impact has not been immense. As a result, Wenger is trying out Gnabry in the absence of Theo Walcott, at the expense of Podolski.

Now this might just be a small incident, but this has given some fodder to the media who are already speculating that he is unhappy at the Emirates Stadium, as reported by Metro; and with the January transfer window currently open, they are already suggesting his exit from the club. Do you think there is any truth to this story? Is he really unhappy at Arsenal?
