Arsenal are leading the race to sign Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng, according to reports in the English media. The Gunners currently have just two fit centre-backs and head coach Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen that area in January.
The former Manchester City player has struggled for game time this season, having started just eight league games, and he could be available for the right price next month.
However, fans on Twitter are not sure Boateng would be a good solution for the club’s defensive problems:
Please no.

Boateng does have over 300 appearances for Bayern and 76 caps for Germany, but at 31 years of age, he is hardly a player for the future. Arteta may see him as someone who can play out from the back, but the priority should be signing a defender who can help keep clean sheets, first and foremost. Whether the German can help in that regard, it is up for debate.
