Arsenal fan Piers Morgan did not hold back on his criticism of David Luiz’s display against Manchester City in the 3-0 defeat last night.
The Brazilian defender was culpable for the first two goals, whilst he was also sent off, and Morgan described it as the “pandemic of performances.”
Well that went as bad as I expected. Special thanks to Luiz for a wondrous half hour cameo – came on as sub, two terrible clangers, conceded penalty & got sent off. The pandemic of performances.

However, this morning, Morgan tweeted that he also admired Luiz for coming out after the game and admitting to his mistakes on camera:
Respect to @DavidLuiz_4 for fronting up to his own culpability. He was diabolical but at least he knows it & hasn’t tried to hide away.
An admirable quality. ? https://t.co/nIXYynYTsy— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) June 18, 2020
Both Luiz and head coach Mikel Arteta have cited mitigating factors as to why the 32-year-old didn’t start the game and put in such an abject display when he replaced the injured Pablo Mari.
The centre-back’s contract expires at the end of this month and while there is an option to extend his stay for a further year, the delay in making his decision has left him unsettled. Going on yesterday evening’s display, his mind was certainly not on football.
