Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit feels that the Gunners should try and sign Bayern Munich midfielder James Rodriguez.
Reports have emerged over the past week that the London club were considering a loan offer for the Colombian international
Rodriguez is currently 18 months into a two-year loan spell with Bayern, but there has been talk that his time in Germany could be cut short.
Petit believes the attacking midfielder would be an ideal replacement for Aaron Ramsey and that he would be able to play the role of playmaker:
“He has this quality – it’s a mix of [Cesc] Fabregas and Isco – and I think he would be a very good signing for Arsenal.”
“If I had to choose between them [James and Suarez] – knowing the situation with Ramsey – Arsenal definitely need an attacking midfielder and need to get a player who has the personality to direct a game and not hide all the time.”
The possibility of Rodriguez leaving Bayern this month is said to be remote. However, there is a greater chance of a move happening in the summer when the German club will decide whether they want to take up their £37m option to sign him.
The 27-year-old has not featured regularly this season due to injury with the game against Hoffenheim last weekend being his first appearance since November.
