Paul Merson Predicts The Scoreline As Arsenal Face Tottenham In The North London Derby

Ex-Arsenal star Paul Merson is expecting his former club to beat Tottenham when the Gunners take on their North London rivals this weekend.

The Sky Sports pundit feels that Spurs are lacking a cutting edge in the final third of the pitch, while he thinks the home side’s recent upturn in form will help them secure the victory:

“Tottenham were top after the first three weeks of the season with nine points on the board, while Arsenal were rock bottom with no points. All of a sudden, Arsenal look good and if I’m being completely honest, I can’t see them losing this one. Obviously, if Harry Kane shows up for Tottenham, they have every chance.”

“However, you look at Spurs at the moment and aside from Kane and Son Heung-Min, who else could hurt Arsenal? They have been solid at the back and have kept three successive clean sheets, while Spurs haven’t been at it for two or three weeks now. With home advantage, I think Arsenal will fancy their chances.”

Merson has gone with a 2-1 win to Arsenal, which seems like a pretty fair prediction, especially when we consider the performances of the two teams heading into the derby.

Mikel Arteta’s side have three victories on the bounce in all competitions, having rested most of their first team for the Carabao Cup tie against AFC Wimbledon during the week.

In contrast, Tottenham selected a number of first-team players in the penalty shootout win over Wolves on Wednesday, having not won a game in 90 minutes since the 1-0 victory against Watford at the end of August.
