Pablo Mari Name Checks Four Arsenal “Legends” That He Takes Inspiration From

New Arsenal signing Pablo Mari wants to follow in the footsteps of four fellow Spaniards who have previously played for the Gunners.

Current head coach Mikel Arteta, as well as former players Santi Cazorla, Jose Antonio Reyes and Cesc Fabregas all had successful careers with Arsenal, and Mari says he is looking to emulate them by bringing success to the club:

“Fabregas, Cazorla, Reyes… they’re all great Spanish players that have passed through this club. One of those legends that we have with us now is Mikel. He was a very important player for Arsenal and now this is a new project for him as coach, but I think he’s going to repeat what he achieved when he was a player.”

“Personally I look up to him and the career he had at Arsenal. That’s what I’ve been working for all these years. I’d love to be at Arsenal for a long time and I hope to give the Gunners some victories to celebrate again.”

Mari didn’t feature in the squad for the 0-0 draw against Burnley last weekend. The 26-year-old has not played since mid-December when his Flamengo side lost to Liverpool in the Club World Cup final.

The defender will be looking to build up his fitness during the winter break so he can begin to feature for the Gunners soon.

Fans will be keenly awaiting the Spanish centre-back’s debut with the Spaniard hoping to win a permanent move to the club with his performances between now and the end of the season.
