Ozil’s Start To Life In Turkey Suggests Arsenal Made The Right Decision

Former Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil described his move to Fenerbahce as “a dream come true” after he made the switch to Turkey on a free transfer in January.

However, his start to life at his new club has been pretty rocky. A lack of fitness meant he missed wins against Kayserispor and Rizespor and he made his first appearance for Fenerbahce as a substitute in a 2-1 victory over Hatayspor.

Ozil’s second appearance for the Turkish side, however, ended in defeat to fierce rivals Galatasaray. On his first start, things didn’t get any better, losing in the Turkish Cup quarter-final to Istanbul Basaksehir.

Since then, the German has started three more matches in the league, a win over Karagumruk, another loss to Goztepe before a victory on Sunday against Trabzonspor.

Ozil has yet to make any real contribution so far, having failed to score or provide an assist in his six games. Whether he’ll improve those numbers once he gets up to full fitness, we shall see.
