Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil says he was delighted by the impact that both Gabriel Martinelli and Nicolas Pepe had on the game as the Gunners came back from 1-0 down to beat West Ham 3-1 yesterday evening.
The away side were very much second best for the first 45 minutes, but goals from Martinelli and Pepe midway through the second half helped to transform the match, and Ozil has paid tribute to his two teammates:
“We are happy for them. We know they have the quality they showed today and we are happy they scored important goals for us. We will continue fighting hard to reach our goal for the season.”
Captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang added a third in a quickfire nine-minute spell which did not look to be on the cards following another lacklustre display.
However, Martinelli found space to tuck away a Sead Kolasinac cross, while Pepe curled in a great strike with his left foot from outside the box to mark his first goal from open play for Arsenal.
Whether the Gunners will kick on from here, we shall see. They face Standard Liege in the Europa League on Thursday before a difficult home game against Manchester City.
