Ozil Misses Game After Twitter Apology But Arsenal Cruise to 4-1 Thumping Of Sunderland

According to Yahoo! Eurosport, Mesut Ozil has issued an apology on social media platform Twitter for his penalty miss in Wednesday night’s 0-2 loss to German champions Bayern Munich.

Arsenal went into the Champins League game with a risky lineup, leaving out Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski. Arsene Wenger chose young Yaya Sanogo to start upfront, giving the inexperienced striker the biggest stage of his career. Ozil then created the best chance of Arsenal’s half when he dribbled the ball inside Bayern’s penalty area, and Jerome Boateng took his compatriot down to give Arsenal the chance to take the lead from the spot. However, Ozil faced his childhood German international teammate Manuel Neuer, and the goalkeeper saved the kick with his right palm to deny Arsenal the lead. The Gunners went on to lose the game by two goals, and Ozil’s performance was criticised by large sections of supporters and pundits as he never seemed to shake off the disappointment of the penalty miss.

The £42.5 million midfielder started the season off brightly for the Gunners, but has felt the demands of the season lately. The former Real Madrid playmaker has issued an apology to the supporters, and was rested against Sunderland due to a ‘dead-leg’ which perhaps came at a good time as even without star-man Ozil, Arsenal delivered a strong reaction to the Bayern defeat with a resounding 4-1 thumping of the wearsiders.
