Arsenal have been told to pay £70m if they want to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, according to multiple reports in England. The Gunners reportedly had a £55m offer rejected for the Frenchman yesterday.
Considering the London club have already spent £72m on Nicolas Pepe, a sizeable bid for another player wasn’t expected during this transfer window, and many supporters are delighted by Arsenal’s ambition:

Hopefully Leipzig is willing to help Arsenal our a bit on an installment plan because I don’t think Arsenal would mind paying that for Upamecano.

£70m does seem a bit steep for Upamecano, though, considering the centre-back is just 20 years of age and doesn’t have a senior cap for the France national team.
The Gunners are believed to be looking at potential alternatives, though, with Juventus’s Daniele Rugani said to be another target. The Serie A side have asked for £50m to sign the player permanently this summer, but Arsenal are more interested in a loan deal.
Fans will be hoping that a deal for a centre-half is agreed before the transfer deadline. The window shuts on Thursday evening.
