Out-Of-Contract Arsenal Fan-Favourite Set To Sign New Deal With The Club

Flying Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson was set to see his contract expire in the summer – however, according to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, the club are working towards giving him a new deal.

In Romano’s tweet, he wrote: “Understand negotiations are currently underway between Arsenal and Reiss Nelson representatives for a contract extension. Current deal expires in June.

“Arteta would be happy to keep Reiss, while more European clubs are showing interest in potential free transfer.”

Nelson has been injured for much of the Premier League season. Despite this, since returning from the treatment table, he has been outstanding. In four Premier League appearances, the 23-year-old has scored three goals and has also notched up a pair of assists.

Should Nelson have been allowed to leave on a free transfer, several clubs would have been interested in snapping him up – Nice, Brighton and Manchester United were thought to be among them.

Nelson has been with Arsenal since 2007, when he was just eight years old. He has progressed through the ranks and has steadily become one of the Gunners’ best attacking players. Additionally, he spent loan spells at both Hoffenheim and Feyenoord when he was younger.

Tying him down with a new deal makes a lot of sense, given his recent form. He has yet to receive an England call-up – but if he continues to put in performances of such high quality, it is only a matter of time.
