Ornstein Names The Player Arsenal Have Been Trying To Sell In Order To Bring In ‘Significant Money’

The Athletic‘s David Ornstein has revealed that Arsenal are now actively seeking to sell midfielder Matteo Guendouzi after being frozen out by head coach Mikel Arteta.

The 21-year-old was once again missing from the matchday squad as the Gunners won 2-0 against Wolves at Molineux yesterday, and Ornstein says the London club are looking to offload the player, either through a swap deal or an actual sale:

“Matteo Guendouzi, I think it looks like his time at Arsenal is coming to an end. Arsenal are offering him in exchange for players they might like to come in, in swap deals.”

“If they as a club think they can bring in money, significant money, or a big swap deal, then clearly that’s something they’ve thought through. As things stand, I think there’s a good chance he’ll be leaving.”

When asked why Guendouzi was omitted from the team that won 4-0 against Norwich on Wednesday, Arteta said there remained issues that had not been resolved:

“It is the same reasons as last week. Some things have to change and nothing has changed.”

It is believed the pair have clashed more than once over the Frenchman’s poor attitude, with his actions in the 2-1 defeat to Brighton last month seemingly being the final straw.

Guendouzi is a hugely talented player. His availability will no doubt garner interest from Europe’s top clubs and some fans will feel that the club may live to regret the decision if they sell the midfielder.
