The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has revealed that Arsenal are trying to secure Chelsea winger Willian on a free transfer.

There has been a lot of speculation about the Brazilian’s future with his current deal expiring at the end of this month, and Ornstein says he is on the list of targets that the Gunners are actively pursuing.

Head coach Mikel Arteta is very keen on signing another wide player, and it is thought that Willian’s experience would also make him a good addition to the squad.

Whether Arsenal can actually secure his services, though, is another matter entirely. Tottenham are also interested in the 31-year-old while there are also a number of clubs around Europe who would like to snap up the Brazilian international.

Willian’s short-term future will likely be resolved today, with an extension until the end of the season likely. Where he will end up next campaign is still far from clear.
