Arsenal are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl, according to reports in Germany.
The Gunners’ head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is said to be keen to sign the 23-year-old to strengthen Unai Emery’s options in midfield.
Fans on Twitter were uncertain whether a move for Weigl is a good idea, considering the number of holding midfielders the club already have:
not really needed

If he is good will we'be a fourth choice player we don't want players like that at arsenal

Depending on the price could be another worthy addition to help build a squad ready to challenge the elite. If Elneny is going then Weigl would be a good replacement

He will still be fourth choice in Arsenal

Imagine being Dortmund when Arsenal come calling for one of their players yet again.

It's unlikely that Arsenal will be able to bring this player, as he is estimated at € 65m

Weigl would be a much better elneny replacement might even be a starter

Julian Weigl (23) for Granit Xhaka (26) doesn't make a whole lot of sense when the kid can't find a way past Mo Dahoud and Leon Goretzka into the starting 11 for club and country. But maybe he'll blossom at Arsenal, and then we can sell him to Barcelona. ?https://t.co/rAkjiN8fip

Weigl isn’t any better than Xhaka currently – they offer the exact same strengths and weaknesses.

Weigl was interesting Manchester City last summer, but it is believed that Dortmund had set an asking price of £68m.
However, since then, the German international has fallen down the pecking order at Signal Iduna Park, with summer signing Axel Witsel being favoured by manager Lucien Favre.
Weigl has made just two starts in the Bundesliga this campaign and has made only seven appearances in total. Still, it is unlikely that Dortmund will let him go.
The German club are reportedly reluctant to let a key squad player leave during the January transfer window.
