No London Move For Di Maria

Angel Di Maria was in the headlines this summer as he was expected to be offloaded by Real Madrid, who were on a mission to revamp their front line. The record breaking arrival of a certain left footed winger, Gareth Bale only went further in sealing his exit from the Santiago Bernabeu. He was heavily linked with Arsenal, but they went for Mesut Ozil instead.

The Argentine ended up staying put and has instead managed to establish himself as a important element in the Real Madrid setup. Rumors linking him with a January move away from the Spanish capital have however refused to die down, with latest insider reports suggesting that Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham are interested in signing him.

The 25-year old has now put an end to all speculation surrounding his future by stating that he does not intend to quit Real Madrid and join either of the London clubs. Metro reported him as saying, “I knew that a €100 million [£86m] player was coming and he had to play,”

“No I have not asked out. My head is at Real Madrid. You [journalists] put that I was going to Tottenham or another club. You know where these reports come out.

“I’m happy at Real Madrid. I never asked for a renewal. A player who does not play cannot request a renewal.”

With Tottenham attempting to kick start life after Andre Villas-Boas, new manager Tim Sherwood will now have to look elsewhere to make his first marquee signing.
