New boys have “sparked something” in Arsenal dressing room says Arsene Wenger

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says that the arrival of both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has “sparked something” in the Gunners dressing room.

Both players joined the Gunners during the transfer window, and starred in Arsenal’s 5-1 thrashing of Everton at the weekend.

The former team-mates at Borussia Dortmund played a crucial role in what was an important victory for Arsene Wenger’s men, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan proving no less than three assists – including one for Aubameyang, who opened his account for his new club on his debut.

Speaking after the result, Wenger has praised the arrival of the duo and believes they can take his club onto big things in the near future.

“It’s always when you have new players it gives always a little positive swing,” said Wenger, “It wakes everybody up as well, because there’s suddenly competition so they have to live with that as well.

“Overall, I think as well we have a game based on team spirit so that kind of acceptance is very important, and when they show on a football field that they accept our game, they are even easier to integrate into the team.”

Mkhitaryan joined the club in a deal that saw Alexis Sanchez go to Manchester United.
Aubameyang joined as a club record signing from Dortmund on deadline way, while Mkhitaryan came as part of a swap deal from Manchester United that saw Alexis Sanchez go the other way to Old Trafford.
And Wenger has history with the latter for the two, having met him before his move to The Emirates, and has since praised his dedication to becoming a world class footballer.

“I met Mkhitaryan before, before he came here, because I liked always his game, but he’s a player completely focused on football, dedicated totally to the game.” he said.

“He comes from a country – Armenia – where you need a special character to become a great football player, you have to really to love it, and that’s why he looks happy to play football because he just loves it.”
