Nacho Monreal: Sanchez and Ozil staying

Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal believes that duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez will stay at the Emirates during the January transfer window, amid growing speculation about their futures.

Both Sanchez and Ozil’s contracts at Arsenal run out in July 2018, and with no indication that either player will sign a new deal, it was believed that the club may be forced into offloading the pair in January in order to recoup some of their losses.

Manchester City are known to have failed in a Deadline Day bid of £60m for Sanchez, while Manchester United have their eye on Mesut Ozil.

Regardless though, Monreal is confident that the pair are committed to the club, and won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

When asked whether the Arsenal dressing room believes that Sanchez and Ozil will be at the club for the second half of the season, Monreal told IBTimes UK: “Yes, the feeling is that they will continue. At no time have we talked about the possibility of them leaving. Not at all. They are committed to the group and we will see what happens.

“I can’t say much about it. It does not depend on me. The situation is clear. They are two vital players for Arsenal. They are two players who end their contracts at the end of the season.

“If the club want them to stay beyond December [the January transfer window] they will follow. Yet, I do not know the club’s intentions. It is other people who are the ones who have to make a decision.”
