Mulumbu Denies Making Arsenal Comment

Midfielder, Youssouf Mulumbu found himself embroiled in a sticky situation where he was facing the wrath of the West Brom faithful after he was reported making a statement about his desire to quit his club and join Arsenal. He was also reported to have criticized his West Brom team-mates over the manner in which the team have been dropping points from winning positions.

This all emerged from an interview the 26-year old gave to France Football magazine, but it is now being said that his comments were tampered with massively and were projected in a completely wrong light by the media. ESPNFC write that he has given a statement clarifying the situation as he said, “I did an interview with a French journalist but I’m not happy about how my answers have been reported.”

“I would never refer to my teammates that way. I just spoke about the fact we need to get better at controlling games after the point we’ve let slip recently.”

“The general point I was trying to make is I want to play at the highest level possible.”

“I admitted there has been interest in me from other clubs but I didn’t speak about Arsenal or say I would be looking to move in January.”

Adding to his statement is his West Brom manager Steve Clark, who refuses to be drawn into this story as he has made an attempt to ensure that this is history now. He said, “I’ve read the translation of the transcript and there’s a lot in it which is quite ambiguous and can be interpreted in different ways.”

“Of course I’ve spoken to my player and the club has also spoken to the player — we’re happy with the explanation we got.”

Mulumbu has been one of the best performers for West Brom and has been their mainstay for majority of this season. He has put in solid displays which have seen his club sit at a respectable 12th position in the table at the moment, who will be eager to finish off this matter at the earliest and instead concentrate on West Brom’s season.
