Momentum building at Arsenal since transfer window closure

Arsene Wenger says Arsenal have become more united since the transfer window slammed shut, with the club winning all but one of their games since.

Arsenal’s season looked in tatters before it had even started rolling, and they were embarrassed 4-0 by Liverpool just before the closure of the transfer window. Many predicted a torrid season ahead for the Gunners, but after the closure of the transfer window and the Alexis Sanchez saga coming to the end, things have been up ever since.

The Gunners brought club-record signing Alexandre Lacazette to the club from Lyon, along with Sead Kolasinac who was out of contract at Schalke. But they allowed both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kieran Gibbs to leave the club.

However, the club seem a lot more settled now speculation has been put on the back burner, and speaking ahead of Arsenal’s game with Brighton, Wenger said: “It feels like a different team. You see the way we play football.”

“You need to have a united group to do that. The weight of the transfer market was much heavier than internationals.”

“I put [our improvement] down to the fact that we realised what we produced was not good enough. But that was a special day for us: it was just before the transfer window closed and just before an international break.”

“Overall we stayed united and responded on the pitch.”

“Mentallly I am very fresh. I focus on the next game,” he added.

“I love football and the way we want to play football so I am always motivated by that. I believe in human beings as well: it is not that we are bad for one day.”
