Modest Arteta Says, ‘We Are Looking Good, Very Solid’

Arsenal midfield maestro Mikel Arteta has iterated the importance of not getting carried away with the club’s current surge in form which has seen them win an astounding 10 matches in all competitions since their opening day defeat in the hands of Aston Villa.

The Gunners have seen a turnaround unlike any other this season, and after facing the heat of not signing a single senior player throughout the summer transfer window, Arsene Wenger was subject to a world of criticism from supporters all around the world. The club have not won a trophy for the best part of nearly a decade, and that fact keeps looming larger on Wenger every season. This season has finally given Arsenal fans some hope of a trophy, and that is not just because of the positive string of results, but also because of the unity in the team to go in the positive direction. There is a sense of togetherness in the squad, which does not focus on one man to save them in times of need, but the dependency one each member of the squad to contribute in moves.

Arteta joined the Gunners at the beginning of the 2011-12 season, and has been an integral part of the transition in Wenger’s squad, as they recovered from the consequent loss of captains Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas. The French boss was under tremendous pressure to rebuild a side that depended so heavily on its three heavyweights. Even though the transition has taken time, Wenger has managed to squeeze in the best from players like Theo Walcott, who stuck by the club in the difficult period. The England international is now pivotal to Arsenal’s attacking unit, and is combining well with newcomer Mesut Ozil, who has given the squad a burst of confidence. Arsenal sit on top of the Barclays Premier League with a two-point lead over Liverpool, with rivals Manchester United outside the top 5.

According to Sky Sports, Arteta has hailed the impact of the German wizard, but iterated the importance of maintaining the momentum without getting carried away by the current success.

Arteta said, “It was a great message from the club because everyone was really expecting a top, top player, probably a striker rather than a number 10, but in the end we got an amazing player and that gave a lift to everyone, not only us but you can see the people are excited again to come and watch and that makes a big difference,

“A player like Ozil gives you a step forward quality-wise and gives you another player on the pitch who can decide the game for you.”

“He proved again that he is able to do it and that’s always great. The more players you have like that, the better chance you have.”

“I always said this is the toughest league to win because you have five or six candidates this year to win it”

“It is still very early stages and nobody has really done anything yet but at least we are looking good, very solid, winning the games and we have got a gap to some of the other teams now.”
