Michael Owen Predicts The Outcome As Arsenal Face Southampton

BT Sport pundit Michael Owen says he is expecting a repeat result of the FA Cup tie when Arsenal face Southampton in the league this evening.

Mikel Arteta’s side succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to the Saints on Saturday, and Owen believes the Premier League fixture will play out in a similar fashion:

“I fancied the Saints on the day. They are so well organised under Ralph Hasenhüttl and I thought they managed the game perfectly. Now facing off in the league, I don’t think either manager will make too many changes. With that in mind, I could see another slender home win on the cards.”

The prediction is a rather lazy one from Owen, to be honest. He says he doesn’t expect either side to make many changes and, while that may be true of Southampton, Arteta will be looking to reinforce his starting lineup.

Thomas Partey, Alexander Lacazette, Bukayo Saka, Kieran Tierney and David Luiz could all come into the side after being rested at St Mary’s at the weekend, and those five should strengthen the Gunners’ chances of getting a result.

With the Saints having a lengthy injury list, they will be unable to rotate as many players meaning that, in addition to facing a fresh Arsenal team, they will not be in the best condition for this one.
