Chelsea got a well-deserved win against Arsenal on Sunday. Even though it was nowhere near as embarrassing as it was last season when the Blues scored 6 times against the North Londoners, it was still unpleasant to see Mourinho’s side blocking each and every attempt the Gunners made to score. According to Metro, even Mertesacker admitted that Chelsea and Arsenal are currently on different levels. The German international who was repeatedly outrun by his adversaries and had trouble keeping up.

Arsenal definitely need reinforcements as the gaps in their game become more obvious. With so many injuries and with a pretty thin squad now it will be close to impossible to keep up with last year’s direct adversaries. Add to that the fact that Manchester United could also be joining the race for the title and you get a pretty difficult situation for Wenger.

Even if the Frenchman manages a few successful winter transfers, it will still be hard for the team to play as a unit right from the start. They are still transitioning right now unlike Chelsea who seem well-integrated already. Redknapp went so far as to compare the Blues with the invincible team Arsenal lined up in the 2003-2004 season. That team was perfectly tied together and had all the resources to shine. Mourinho is now close to achieving the same perfect balance between talent, teamwork and excellent tactics. If Chelsea continue down this road they might well end up finishing this season undefeated.
