Mertesacker Calls For Two Perfect Performances

According to the Mirror, Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has suggested that the Gunners can beat Bayern Munich in their upcoming Champions League fixture against the German giants, but has admitted the team will need to deliver two perfect games to achieve the feat.

Arsenal face the daunting task of facing Pep Guardiola’s new club in the UEFA Champions League, and will host the German champions on Wednesday night at the Emirates Stadium. Having won all trophies possible last season, Bayern have emerged as one of the top teams in the world, and the trophies have made new signings easy to complete. Thiago Alcantra was signed from Barcelona while Mario Gotze was signed from Borussia Dortmund, only adding to Munich’s awesome options. The wing duo of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben have consistently posed a threat across all competitions, and will play an important role for Bayern as they will try to get an away goal at the Emirates in the first leg of the tie.

Arsene Wenger’s men will have to dig deep and keep possession so as to prevent Bayern establishing their attacking strategy. Guardiola’s team are known to follow the technique of progressive attacking, and it will certainly require a perfect game from Mertesacker and defensive partner Laurent Koscielny to keep Arsenal in the tie.
