Merson Makes Pessimistic Prediction Ahead Of Arsenal’s Clash Against Manchester City

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson does not expect the Gunners to get a result against Manchester City tomorrow as he can’t see how they can hurt their opponents.

The Citizens lost at home to archrivals Manchester United last weekend, but despite Pep Guardiola’s side looking vulnerable at the moment, he doesn’t expect Arsenal to come away with anything from the Emirates:

“This league has Liverpool and Manchester City in it and Arsenal have no chance of challenging them. Arsenal get beat this weekend. I said last week that United would test City, and they did. But I can’t see how Arsenal do.”

It is certainly a pessimistic prediction but one that will likely become reality unless they increase their intensity, which has been sorely lacking in the past few matches.

Despite winning 3-1 against West Ham on Monday, they performed poorly for the first hour, and even with a changed team, they did not look entirely convincing in the draw versus Standard Liege either.

It may be the case that ‘attack is the best form of defence’ on Sunday, and that could lead to a very high scoring game considering City’s own troubles defensively recently.
