Merson Lists His Three Favoured Candidates To Become Arsenal’s Next Manager

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson believes the Gunners should pick either ex-Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers or Wolves’ Nuno Espirito Santo to be their next head coach.

The Sky Sports pundit thinks Rodgers, in particular, will be well suited to the role at the Emirates as he has the capability of improving the players already in the squad:

“Arsenal should go for Mauricio Pochettino or Brendan Rodgers now they’ve finally put Unai Emery out of his misery. I’m all for Rodgers getting the job. He’s a proven coach. He improves players – and these players need to be improved!”

“I like Nuno Espirito Santo at Wolves as well. And Pochettino is a top manager who is out of work and available. He might be tempted.”

Looking at the betting odds, Rodgers is currently pretty low down the list of favourites to take over at Arsenal, with Paddy Power having the Foxes manager at 20/1.

The likes of Eddie Howe, Rafa Benitez and Patrick Vieira are even above him at some bookies, with the leading candidates still being Massimiliano Allegri, Freddie Ljungberg and Mikel Arteta.

Rodgers would certainly be an intriguing appointment, though, with the Northern Irishman having guided Leicester to third in the table. His side could leapfrog Manchester City into second place if they grab a point against Everton today.
