Merson Delivers Pessimistic Verdict On Arsenal’s Chances Of Beating Watford

Arsenal will lose against Watford on Monday night, according to Paul Merson.

The former Gunners midfielder compared their performance at Everton to those struggling against relegation and he thinks his former side will be bullied by the Hornets at Vicarage Road:

“They can win 10 games on the trot at home, but they haven’t kept a clean sheet away from home in the league all season.”

“Watford usually bully them, and Arsenal will have their minds on the Napoli game at the same time. I fancy a home win, as I think Arsenal have bigger fish to fry.”

Merson has gone for a 2-1 win for Watford and considering Arsenal’s poor away form, it is not an entirely surprising prediction.

As the TV pundit mentions, they haven’t kept a clean sheet in the league away from the Emirates this campaign, and with Sokratis Papastathopoulos suspended for two games, keeping the opposition out looks even more unlikely.

With captain Laurent Koscielny having returned to action against Napoli last night, following an absence due to a bruised foot, that will, at least, provide some added protection to the backline.

Still, if the Gunners are to get the three points on Monday, they will likely have to score more than one goal, with the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having to provide the firepower.
